Shapes and Colors

Hello Everyone!

Our upcoming unit will be on shapes and colors. The students will learn about 11 different colors and 8 different shapes.


Colors:
1) Red
2) Orange
3) Yellow
4) Green
5) Blue
6) Purple
7) Pink
8) Brown
9) Black
10) Gray
11) White



Shapes:
1) Circle
2) Square
3) Rectangle
4) Triangle
5) Oval
6) Star
7) Heart
8) Diamond

Throughout the unit, the students will be given various assignments on certain shapes and colors and by the end will be able to identify all of the colors and will be able to draw all of the shapes. I have attached two that I would like for you to watch with your child. These videos will help prepare them for the unit to come.

Colors

Colors and Examples:
Red- Primary color (Examples: fire truck, apple, strawberry)
Orange- Secondary color, created from a mixture of red and yellow (Examples: oranges)
Yellow- Primary color (Examples: sun, lemon, banana)
Green – Secondary color, created from a mixture of yellow and blue (Examples: grass, lime)
Blue- Primary color (Examples: sky, ocean)
Purple- Secondary color, created from a mixture of red and blue (Examples: grapes)
Brown- Created from a mixture of any two primary colors (Examples: Chocolate, brownies)
Pink- Created from a mixture of red and white (Examples: bubble gum)
White (Examples: clouds, snow)
Black (Examples: blackberries, licorice)

Grey (Examples: metal)


Shapes

Shapes and Definitions:

Circle- A curved line surrounding a center point, every point of the line being an equal distance from the center point.

Triangle- A plane figure that has 3 sides and 3 angles.

Square- A geometric figure with 4 equal sides and 4 right angles.
Star- A shape based on a star seen in the night sky, having 5 or more radiating points.
Oval- Shaped like an egg
Rectangle- A 4-sided plane figure in which each angle is a right angle.
Diamond- (quadrilateral) A 4-sided shape like a square standing on one of its corners; a rhombus.

Heart- A rounded, roughly triangular shaped plane fig.
